OTC in NYC

I'm in New York for some meetings on a major project that will be announced shortly. Our team had a nice dinner in the West Village and afterwords we strolled over to the East side.

Along the way, we passed by the world famous Strand Bookstore and I had the chance to duck in and a take a quick look. I had just received an advance copy of Alan Flusser's Style & the Man, so I had to check in with the door guard to let him know that I wasn't stealing a book that, technically speaking, does not yet exist!

We also passed by Magnolia Bakery, with their outstanding cupcakes.

  5. Hopefully, the Rake will be available in the US soon.

How is the "new" Style and the Man compared to the old edition?

ps: I look forward to your little project.

  6. GG - I wholeheartedly agree about the Rake. Things are going well with them I hear, so hopefully it's just a matter of time.

The "new" S&TM is actually an updated rendering of the first half of the original version. Alan dispensed with the store listing and just focused on the advice section. much of the advice is unchanged, but throughout the book, he has updated the copy to reflect current trends and issues of style.

The overall feel and styling of the new edition is that of a guidebook rather than a reference tome; it's footprint is a tad smaller and it's much slimmer. Personally, I feel that they are essentially distinct and separate.
